4th Annual Partnership Memorial Art Contest

The results of our 4th annual art contest are in, and the top photos are on display at the Kiryat Malachi Library.  A calendar of the top 14 pictures is being made for Israel, and note cards for the 3 US federations of 8 of the pictures, 2 from each community, are in the works.

The contest has been in the memory of two people, one in the US and one in Israel.  Chuck Simpson, z"l, was the husband of Amy Wasser-Simpson, the staff person in Seattle who has been active in the partnership for many years.  Netanel Peretz was the son of Yossi (and Edit) Peretz, from Kiryat Malachi.  The Peretzs have opened their home to many people from the States in the spirit of partnership.

The above picture took first place in Israel.  It was drawn by a 6th grade student form Har-El school in Kiryat Malachi.  He wrote the word "Shutfut" ("partnership" in Hebrew) and inside each letter drew pictures of people in costume from different parts of the world.

This picture, by Joss, a 5th grader in Jess Schwartz school in Phoenix.,shows the 3 US communities and Israel together. The airplane banner says, "No matter where you are in the world, we are all partners."

Katrin, a 6th grader from Har El  (in Kiryat Malachi) drew this picture, where children and adults work together in partnership to build a garden.

Zevi, a 2nd grader from Tucson,  drew this  Picasso-esque picture.  At  the bottom, you can see he wrote "Am Yisrael Chai" in Hebrew.

International P2K Conference in Israel

About 250 leaders representing 45 Partnership 2000 regions and 500 Jewish communities from all over the world took part in the third annual Partnership 2000 International Conference. The conference was held in Tel Aviv, marking the first time it took place in Israel. Held under the banner, "Partnerships of Inspiration", the conference focused on the Partnerships' broader organizational environment. The conference was simulcast via the internet.

Partnership 2000 awards were presented to four Partnerships:
1. Kiryat Malachi-Ashkelon Coast - TIPS (Tucson, Phoenix, Seattle) Children's Art Project (see photo above).

2. Beit Shemesh-Mateh Yehuda - Washington-South Africa Bike Trail Project.
3. Ofakim-Merchavim - MetroWest Women's Empowerment Project, assisting area women in opening ethnic-food businesses

4. Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir - Chicago Kolot Project.

On November 12, at the Third International Partnership Conference held at Kfar Hamaccabi in Ramat Gan, our TIPS partnership won one of the four "Awards of Excellence" that were presented this year.

Since there are 45 partnerships and many programs, this truly was an honor. We won for our art competition/calendar program. It is the first such award that the region has ever won and thanks must be given to everyone who has worked so hard on this project .

Hundreds of 5th and 6th graders from the 3 US Jewish communities as well as schools in Kiryat Malachi and Hof Ashkelon participated in the contest, which is help in memory of the late Chuck Simpson of Seattle and Netanel Peretz of Kiryat Malachi. The theme of the competition this year came from the song "G-d Gave You As a Present" by Eitan Masouri and David Halfon. Three top pictures from each region were chosen to be in the calendar. If you are from one of these areas and have not gotten a calendar, check with your Federation representative or Dvora in Kiryat Malachi or Revital in Hof Ashkelon.
